Budget Airline's Marketing...

I came across Jetstar.com ads on the Strait Times on 14 Oct 08.. And the big headline for the ads is "All Inclusive* Low Fares This Week!" Then below i saw Bangkok one way at Nett S$90... A small print says it includes airport taxes + other surcharges... If you do not read the fine print.. you will sure get turn off by the S$90 per way fare to Bangkok..

Then on the other hand Tiger Airways Ads was showing their 1 cents fare per way to Bangkok.. Which was the talking point among everyone... And to add in the tax it is still cheaper then Jetstar.com... Thus Tiger Airways ads was a success...

So to compare both budget airlines.. Tiger Airways is truly a budget airline because the way it advertise their low low fare.. But if you were to really calculate.. Jetstar.com might have the value-for-money fare.. Where at Tiger Airways you only pays what you require (That is the true Budget Airline mode of operation, no frills). See comparison below... (fare are subject to change)

Jetstar.com - Bangkok Return Fare:
S$180(wz all taxes & surcharge) + Booking fee of S$20 = S$190
- 20 KG Check-in Baggage allowance
- Hand carry baggage 7kg
- Check in at Terminal 1

Tiger Airways - Bangkok Return Fare:
S$0.02 + Taxes S$160 + 15kg Luggage (2 sectors) S$20 + Booking Fee S$8 = S$188.02
- 15 KG Check-in Baggage allowance (for 20kg baggage allowance is charge at S$20 / sector)
- Hand carry baggage 7kg
- Check in at Budget Airport
