Boss Not in Good Mood Week...

My boss mood has not been so good for the pass few days.. She will scold anyone for the slightest mistake they made.. (Sometimes mistake they don't make).. Especially our poor colleague from China.. they always got the worst tongue slashing from my boss, recently... They never learn their lesson.. we warned them about boss bad mood and they refuse to listen.. and still keep on making silly mistakes in front of my boss... After got tongue slashing a few time they now start to complaint that why boss keep picking at them? Is is because they are from China and was bond for 2 years, so it gave my boss reason to scold them? Answer is NO...
We, Singaporean and Malaysian got part of the tongue slashing too... On Tuesday, my boss instruct me and my colleague to collect the documents for Myanmar VISA application from her friends.. And she told us that we need to collect the "personal letter to Myanmar embassy" from her friend and told us that operation manager has the sample copy ... Then in the afternoon boss's friend came and submit the documents... without the personal letter, passport and some other document.. it was incomplete... My colleague ask for the letter from my operation manager then she realised that she does not have that sample copy.. The sample copy my operation manager had was the "company letter to embassy" which require company "letter head" letter from the respective applicant.. So my colleague told my boss's friend to prepared the letter and come back again to submit the rest of the documents... (How could she not bring the most important things like passport to do her VISA?)
After a while my boss called and scolded my colleague for creating inconvenient to her friend.. And my colleague starts crying after she put downs the phone... I was so angry wz my boss wrong judgement.. My poor colleague later did not even spoke a word the whole day.. she was really hurt by my boss... When my boss came back, she ask me why we made her friend run twice.. I explain to my boss that her friend did not submit the required documents for VISA application and the letter was suppose to be a "company letter to Myanmar Embassy" with company letter heading..... My boss did not believe me and call up our company's freelance visa application representative.. She was being told the same thing what my operation manager told me... (So it was my boss who gave us the wrong information)...
Then that is not all.. it was not my colleague mistake... but my boss come out from her room and gave me and my colleague a tongue slashing.. She said "So did i gave both of you very clear instruction?? From now on, don't show me both your black face to me, Understand??" .. I was so furious with what she said... Me and my colleague just keep quiet never even look at her.. just treat her invisible and continue doing our work.. But deep in our heart we are very very hurt by her comment... If she don't apologise for giving wrong information.. we just let it be.. but she should not have pass this remarks... (In the wrong liao still want to win)..

High School Musical 3 - The Movie

On 27 Oct08 (Monday, Deepavali). We went Tampines Mall to watch "High School Musical 3 - The Movie"... The whole cinema was crowded with school children and teenagers.. It was a dynamic musical movie.. just like the Bollywood movies.. more song more dance.. and more of the school scene... (of course we don't see this kind of environment in Singapore school, it is just a musical)...
I have watched the other 2 parts of High School Musical 1 & 2.. High School Musical 2 is the most disappointing one.. Comparing to the other 2 episode.. and i can say all actors have improved a lot in their acting, dancing and singing, especially the male main cast, Troy, in High School Musical 3... Three cheers for the Wildcat.. !!!
The basketball scene, so funny.. where the basketball players can sing and bounce and slam dunk at the same time... Imagine Yaoming singing Jay Chou rap will playing basketball... Haha.. All the dance movement are very well choreograph.. except for the finale part where every one wearing the graduation robe and dancing to their own free style on the field.. it was super messy..

My wife was saying this is not movie, it is more of a sitcom.. i told it is a musical movie.. just like Bollywood Movie...

Disclosure of Full Prices in Advertisements

From next month onwards, all travel agencies and airlines are suppose to disclose the full price of travel package or airfare. They are suppose to include the Airport Tax, Fuel Surcharge, insurance and administrative..

But travel agencies and airline have our own concern.. Fuel surcharge are always subject to fluctuation.. Hotels will have their room surcharge and Gala Dinner for peak period. Airline also have their own different booking class with different fare. How about budget airlines, their fare is rates at its flight demand. To disclose all these in the ads.. I think it will be a very long list..

For example..

3D2N Hong Kong Free & Easy.
$340 + $200 (Airport Tax, Fuel Surcharge, Insurance & Administrative Fees)
Hotel: Dorsett Seaview
Airline: Cathay Pacific
Booking Class: 'S'
Travel Period: 1/11/08 - 14/11/08, 20/11/08 - 17/12/08, 26/12/08 - 29/12/08.
Room Surcharge: 24/12/08 at $50 / room / night, 31/12/08 at $100 / room / night

See just only one Hong Kong ads, you can see the number of words is so much.. then how about those dates in valid during the travel period??.. and considering the cost per row and column.. Then so many packages to advertise.. High cost!!!

How could the price and the wordy advertisement attract attention?? All our selling prices are file into 3 huge 3inch ring files.. with so many countries and products.. We are not like some business who only sell a few products or services.. Our range of fare varies a lot.. from low season to peak season, and peak season does not mean Singapore school holiday peak season.. it is also include overseas perk seasons... and different hotel have different seasonal rates and surcharge.. How could we advertise an attractive price??

Tourism and Hospitality Study

Since the government announcing the winner of the both Integrated Resort (IR), many young Singaporeans pour into study Tourism, Hospitality and Casino Management.. Many institutes in Singapore starts to offer these course to the demand of students from local and overseas.

Photo taken from Tourism Academy Sentosa

Many students did not know that this tour industry is very demanding with long working hours and low pay... This is a 24hrs, 7 days a week industry. Hotels staffs, Airport staffs, Travel Agency staffs, Restaurant staffs, casinos card dealers, tourist guide etc.. all have to work irregular shift duties including weekends and public holiday.... Because travel industry is service industry.. and service is an extraordinary job.. You must have the passion to this industry, if not you will get burn out by the irregular shift work and high service expectations.. Imagine the world without service industry? Your weekends will be boring if all the retail outlets, transportation, food court, shopping malls, entertainment are all closed.... Everyone will have no where to go during weekends and holidays.. That is why i said service industry is an extraordinary industry..

Based on my experience in interviewing candidates for counter staffs position.. Most students who graduated from these institutes with a certificate or diploma.. or some with a degree in tourism management... are expecting to land in a managing position or supervision position.. They refuse to accept lowly position.. and they are expecting a higher pay.. And most important of all.. they DO NOT want to work during the weekends and public holidays... With the paper qualification.. they can choose and pick.. unlike those who are inexperience and without paper qualification..

So many students graduate with a paper qualification.. and hunting for management position.. then who is going to work at the bottom.. What this industry needs most are services staffs and not management staffs.. Do you think the IR will employ only managers and supervisors?.. Answer: NO.. They need more service staffs for housekeeping, front desk, landscaping, laundry, waiters, janitors, chefs, bellboys, card dealers, security guards, entertainers etc... These are the recent jobs still available from the IR.. Why are these tourism and hospitality students not taking up these jobs?? Because it is lowly paid and hard work.. Simple.. every youngsters now hopes to be on top of the ladder, rather than have a humble climb from below.. They think their paper qualification could bring them there.. but sad to say, not for tourism industry.. Good Service require passions, experience and practise to nurture, not by the books..

My service motto "You will never knows what the next customer expects of you...."

Same engine for all F1 teams

After the successful Singapore F1 Night Race.. there are more coverage on Formula 1 in our local media than before... That was really good news for F1 fans like me.. we are able to get news and update from our local media...

I read that Bernie wanted to push for same standard engine for all teams.. meaning to say.. Ferrari unable to used their own engine and BMW, Mercedes, Renault, Toyota and Honda will be out of the F1 scene... Having different engine manufacturers will help them to market their street cars.. Imagine if Toyota were to win the construction championship.. Many people will flock to Toyota's dealers to buy their cars.. Subaru sales boost when they win the World Rally Championship with their Imprexa WRX...

Even in soccer.. may sports appeal are fighting to sponsor football teams.. like Nike with Arsenal, Addidas with Liverpool.. And if Arsenal won the EPL league cup.. Nike sales will boost.. These are form of marketing...

Feeling sad, recently...

I have been feeling sad recently... Just don't know why... Have been blaming myself.. for not being myself.. My mood swing starts getting over me again...

I feel that life is just like a box pf chocolate.. You never know what you will be getting (Now i know how Forrest Glump feel).. i just don't really know how to express myself in words.. Recently I have been playing the piano to release my stress.. Then i try to pick up cycling.. Bought a bicycle and start cycling around the neighbourhood area.. Riding the bicycle.. gave me the feel of rush and freedom.. i love to speed on my bike.. and negotiating corners.. change routing as and when i like.. nobody will be able to stop me.... Only me commanding my bicycle and my fatigue body...
This is the first time i blog about my own feeling.. Everyday work and home.. Boring... Is this family life?.. Why family life are boring..? Shouldn't family life be more happy, fun and interesting?... Where everyone in the family enjoys doing things together.. It seems to be different for me.. I start to feel the stress of my family... Coming home to a very messy place.. and everyone so lazy... .... ....

Budget Airline's Marketing...

I came across Jetstar.com ads on the Strait Times on 14 Oct 08.. And the big headline for the ads is "All Inclusive* Low Fares This Week!" Then below i saw Bangkok one way at Nett S$90... A small print says it includes airport taxes + other surcharges... If you do not read the fine print.. you will sure get turn off by the S$90 per way fare to Bangkok..

Then on the other hand Tiger Airways Ads was showing their 1 cents fare per way to Bangkok.. Which was the talking point among everyone... And to add in the tax it is still cheaper then Jetstar.com... Thus Tiger Airways ads was a success...

So to compare both budget airlines.. Tiger Airways is truly a budget airline because the way it advertise their low low fare.. But if you were to really calculate.. Jetstar.com might have the value-for-money fare.. Where at Tiger Airways you only pays what you require (That is the true Budget Airline mode of operation, no frills). See comparison below... (fare are subject to change)

Jetstar.com - Bangkok Return Fare:
S$180(wz all taxes & surcharge) + Booking fee of S$20 = S$190
- 20 KG Check-in Baggage allowance
- Hand carry baggage 7kg
- Check in at Terminal 1

Tiger Airways - Bangkok Return Fare:
S$0.02 + Taxes S$160 + 15kg Luggage (2 sectors) S$20 + Booking Fee S$8 = S$188.02
- 15 KG Check-in Baggage allowance (for 20kg baggage allowance is charge at S$20 / sector)
- Hand carry baggage 7kg
- Check in at Budget Airport

Daughter's Fortune....

My wife went to a fortune teller.. to check the fortune and pass life of my daughter.. just for the fun of it.. but the result turns out to be a nightmare...

My daughter future is a disastrous.. and her name is not suitable for her also, according to the fortune teller... Her pass life is an officer during the Han Dynasty.. He is talented but arrogant and lives in his own world.. Because of his arrogant nature, he is not a popular officer and was being expelled from his post.. and he could not come to term of his expel despite his great talent. He was a bankruptcy before he pass away... After he pass away his children all go their own way..

Thus my daughter current life is not so good.. She will learn things half way.. she is friendly and have many friends, but they are all not sincere.. She is helpful to other but will be unappreciated and at times being sabotage by those she help.. She easily falls into wrong company.. She will flirt around and her husband will not love her much... Her children will die... And she will end with a disastrous dead.. (After reading her fortune.. i got goose bum.. ) How could a lovely child end up is such a tragic when she grow up...

My wife suggest to change her name.. which i would agreed on.. But I'm a Buddhist and i don't believe in fortune telling.. i always believe in Karma.. What you reap in your current life is the cause and effect of your pass life.. If my daughter were to accumulate good credits in her current life, her Karma could change.. This what i believe in... I told my wife to enroll her for the Buddhist classes during the weekend... We will encourage her to do more charity and good deeds.. and also will bring her out to do volunteer job... I believe that should be the right Buddhist way to reduce her bad Karma. And not paying a huge amount to the fortune teller to change her life..

Bicycle present save her birthday..

After a whole day play at Downtown East.. and on friday celebrated her birthday at sch.. My daughter is not very happy.. can see she don't have the birthday joy on her face.. She was expecting us to throw her a birthday party.. but because she fall sick and we are unable to get a venue.. we cancel the birthday bash for her..
On the day of her birthday 12 Oct 08.. (Sun) she woke up and was being greet by me and my wife a joyous "Happy Birthday" greetings.. then she just gave us both a miserable smile and went to watch her cartoon.. I look at my wife and she look at me.. in amuse.. Didn't she had a great fun yesterday at the eXplorer Kid... Well then we realise that she is disappointed that she didn't get a birthday party..
They day before she has been nagging and nagging that she wanted a bicycle for her birthday.. we already brought for her a "built-A-Bear" bunny.. (to me it was not cheap).. so she approach her grandparent to buy her a bicycle for her birthday.. but the old folks are worried about her safety riding a bicycle.. also refuse to buy for her one.. Well in order to keep her happy during her birthday.. my wife brought a bicycle for her.. and the happy smile on her face starts to glow for the rest of the day...
Thus the bicycle save her birthday.. (Sometime i was wondering will such "give in" spoil my child? I rather she work of it, then just request for it)

Dinner at New York New York....

I went to New York New York Restaurant for Dinner with my family member to celebrate my Child's birthday on 11 Oct 08... Every time i see a long queue at the restaurant.. so decided to give it a try... I dine at the Downtown East outlet..

First we ordered the Cheese Fondue... It come with fried vegetable, like Mushrooms and Aubergine... The crunchy fried vegetables does not go well with the melting cheese.. They should have used toast bread instead...

Next for the main course. My mom ordered Prime Ribs.. The serving is big.. and it is the best dish we tasted that evening.. the ribs are tender and the BBQ sauce are nice... It goes well with the serving of wedges...

My dad ordered whole grilled chicken.. The chicken meat is a bit tough and dry.. dress with brown sauce and served with wedges.. (My dad can't finish it... )

Me and my wife ordered a Meat Combo, comes with 2 half grilled chickens, 4 grilled spare ribs, crispy chicken chops, serves with 2 corn comb, coslaw, bake bean and some wedges.. Terrible meal.. everything is not tasty at all...

The serving is all very large.. The waitress was asking us if we are sure to order the whole grill chicken? And we said yes.. then when the food come we had a big surprise.. the portion are so huge... we can't even finish all the food and got to take away 4 quarters of grilled chicken.. Actually for the huge serving and the reasonable pricing.. it is value of money, but the food quality is disappointing..

But came the consolation when the manager of the restaurant brings out a cake with lighted candle together with his staffs.. sings a happy birthday song for my child... We are so delighted of their service that my dad give them some tippings.. on top of the service charge...

Morning cycle at Punggol

Yesterday after sending my child to school.. I go for my usual cycling (Since i start work at 12pm).. I took the route from My child kindergarten towards Rivervale Mall, after that turn right towards Punggol.. cycle along the Punggol LRT track.. After passing by Punngol MRT and bus interchange, i decide to explore more of Punggol.. i saw an empty stretch of road with plenty of construction nearby.. so i took a left turn and head towards that road..

At one of the junction, i discovered "Fo Guang Shan" Singapore Branch Temple... made a U-Turn and head into "Fo Guang Shan".. park my bicycle outside the temple and went in to pray.. (I did not pics of the temple with my mobile phone).. The temple was beautiful.. outside there are statues of little monks surrounding the fence.. and the "Happy Buddha" (Maitreya Buddha) sitting comfortably at the entrance of the temple greeting me with a big smile.. the main hall was specious with high ceiling.. In the middle sit a big Buddha statue with a very compassionate face.. and many Bodhisattva's statues on the upper half of the high wall.. There is calm and peace when u enter the hall... I did my prayer look around and left the temple..
Continuing my cycling... decide to further explore the empty stretch of road.. then i saw some stray dogs.. and they saw me.. we stare at each other.. then i made a U-turn and turn away and so are the dogs... Haha...

Daughter Birthday Celebration..

Well after so much discussion with my wife.. We decide to have just a simple dinner with family members on Saturday (11 Oct 08)... We decide to cancel the birthday party plans.. because my daughter is sick.. for a few days and has infected my wife too... and i was still trying my best not to get infected by both of them.. Imagine now my home is full of air-borne virus... hahaha... We would not feel good if this virus infect every party children guest.... We are responsible host... Hahaha...

MRT BreAKdOwn in Buangkok Station..

Last night i was travelling back home by MRT.. The MRT train has delayed at a few station (eg. Chinatown, Dohby Ghaut etc...)... When the train stop at Buangkok Station.. it was delayed for a few minutes before the SMRT Staff announce that there is a technical breakdown and everyone has to leave the train.. Many of us move out of the train..

Lucky for me.. i bum into my god-sister at Dhoby Ghaut and got someone to chat with.. Once out of the MRT train, one old lady ask me.. "what is happening?".. and i explain to her that this train has breakdown..

Once the MRT is cleared of all passengers, the train door close and leave the station. And then to my surprise that old lady ask me.. "The train breakdown, then why the door still can close and the train still can move??".. I was like being choke by her remark.. She is not wrong either.. If the train were to breakdown.. It shouldn't be functioning at all... Hahaha..

Me and my god-sister decide to leave the station by walking towards the nearest LRT station, Ranggung Station instead of the free shuttle bus arrange by SMRT..

Hotel Room Types..

I saw this article "Hotel Room Type" in Straits Time Classified and thought it would be good to share this with everyone..

Room Categories:
STANDARD ROOM - The lowest category of the room type with basic furnishing and amenities. Usually the hotel will use this type of room for agent contract rates.

SUPERIOR ROOM - This is subject to interpretation. it's suppose to mean superior to a standard room in both size and furnishing, but it may also refer to room with a better view. For most 5 star hotels, superior is consider the lowest range category.

DELUXE ROOM - The view, location of the room, furnishing, amenities and room size are suppose to be better. In some Caribbean hotels, a deluxe room is a lower category than a superior room (It is always best to check before book)

EXECUTIVE ROOM - (This category is not feature in ST Classified) This category is almost the same is deluxe, but it is cater for businessman. You may find fax machine, Internet connection and most hotel provide daily newspaper.

JUNIOR SUITE - This is typically a larger bedroom with a seating area. Usually comes with a sofa set at the seating area. It may have a divider between the bed and the sitting area, but it is not two separate room.

SUITE - Usually two or more clearly defined rooms, often a bedroom and a living room with a door between them. Some hotel use the word "Suite" to define any room with a sofa in it, without having two or more separate rooms (eg. Macau's Venetian Hotel), so check to make sure which is it.
Hope this is useful for you when u book hotel.. Well different hotel and different countries have different definitions on type of rooms.. This is just only a general guide...

My Lasagna Recipe....

The type of instant Lasagna Pasta Sheet

Last night i bake a Lasagna.. (It was a long time since i last bake Lasagna)... Still taste as good as before.. When i was staying at my aunty's place for a few years.. during my sec school days.. I saw how my aunt make Lasagna.. and from there i pick up how to make Lasagna..

Here is the simple recipe:
Add Olive oil and stir fried the chopped Garlics and Onions.. and then throw in the sliced Mushrooms..
Once the Onions turn transparent, add in the Mince Meat (Either Beef or Pork, Beef will be a better choice). keep stirring till the mince meat is well done..
Then add in the Pasta Sauce (you can buy ready made Pasta Sauce)... Stir till slightly boil..
Add Worcester Sauce, Ready made Italian Herbs, Salt and Pepper to taste..
Preheat Oven at 180 Degree..

Boil half a pot of water. When boiled.. place the Lasagna pasta sheet one by one into the boiling water for 1 mins.. (Remember not to throw every Pasta sheet in together, it will stick together)..
Once the Pasta Sheet is a bit soft, you may take it out (Please don't over cook the pasta sheet or it will tear easily)

Grease the bottom on the baking tray with Olive Oil Butter..
Pour some Mince Meat Sauce (Not too much) into the bottom of the baking tray before you layer it with the Pasta Sheet.. Then another layer of Mince Meat Sauce and shredded Mozzarella Cheese, followed by a layer of Pasta sheet.. Make about at least 4 layers.. On the last layer.. Add a little Mince Meat Sauce with plenty of shredded Mozzarella Cheese...

Place the Lasagna into the oven and bake for 30 to 40 mins... Serves while hot.... Goes well with Minestrone Soup... Mama Mia....

Planning for my child birthday party

My child birthday is getting close.. 12 Oct 08 (The day Bali was 1st time Bomb).. and we still have not come out with any plans yet.. So last night i manage to get my wife attention about this.. We discuss.. till 1am...
we consider a few options.. my wife decline to celebrate at home saying it will be tiring to clean up the house after that.. and my apartment is too small for big crowd.. next we thought about the nice void deck at my flat.. which is link to a park and playground.. but it seems too public... then we thought maybe go McDonald.. good for the children.. but how about those elderly relatives... Those aunties and uncles are not games for burgers as party meals.. then our final solution.. book a function room or BBQ pit at one of our friend's condo.. I gave her a call and my friend agreed.. but whether the function is available a not... is still in doubt because it was so last minute...
If we manage to get the function room.. then i'll be the chef of the day again.. So long never cook a buffet for party.. I really do enjoy cooking a buffet spread... Worst to worst scenario.. no party, just go for a family dinner in a restaurant.. just like last year.. then there will be an all adults celebration for my daughter.. (sad for her)...

Singapore F1 Review.. Post F1 Fever....

Now Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo is eating sour grapes.. complaining that Street circuit does not have over taking opportunities.. He called it "Circus" Tracks.. and he also complaint that the Safety cars intervention twice during the race which cost Ferrari losing all the points.. The fact that Ferrari did a very poor performance is not the F1 fault.. nor the circuit fault nor the safety car fault.. It is their own fault.. for not using the lollipop man.. and their pit staffs fault.. Imagine if Ferrari where to win a 1 - 2 race in Singapore street night circuit.. They would not complaint.. They seems like a cry baby.. wanting things their way..

Anyway back to the review..

I hope these are the improvement the organiser could improve on for next year F1 Grand Prix.. More Big Screen TV.. and Bigger TV screen.. and also more raising platform for walk-about ticket holder.. Wider bridge at the entrance to cut down human traffic jam... Widen the road and make it more smooth for the driver to over take.. Spectators loves to see more over taking opportunities...

Base on this year Walk-about ticket holder experience.. Most of the walk-about raise platform does not have Big TV screen and thus spectator does not know the results and action on other corners.. Spectator have to rent the Kangaroo TV (a portable hand held TV), to watch the live telecast of the race which cos about S$100++ per day.. Next year i will share cost with my friend to rent a set of Kangaroo TV or i will bring my own portable TV, if it is live telecast from Channel 5...

Some of the beautiful Singapore night scene along the street circuit... Picture taken for the net.
These Singapore night scape will woo tourist from all over the world to some to Singapore...
